Announcing Formation of New AECT Special Interest Group on Education in Health Professions

To start the New Year, I'm excited to announce the formation of the Education in Health Professions-Special Interest Group (EDHP) within AECT.

Our vision is to help "ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages."1 To achieve the vision, the EDHP seeks to advance the professional practice of healthcare professionals and instructional designers by fostering transdisciplinary collaboration and communications, promoting immersion and the sharing of ideas and resources, and by facilitating evidence-based education, training, and professional development of healthcare professionals and their clients.

We are also excited to start the New Year by sharing an info graphic by Love, Anderson, and Haggar (2019) published in Academic Medicine on the need to strategically integrate instructional designers in medical education. It underscores the vision and mission of the EDHP, and the value of bringing the worlds closer together.

If you are interested in joining the EDHP, please subscribe to the open access EDHP ListservPlease distribute this announcement and the instructions to anyone you think may be interested. We are also in process of establishing a EDHP website along with a synchronized presence in FB and Twitter. Please consider subscribing to the new EDHP-Listserv as we solicit ideas, and identify needs and interests.

In addition, to forward the vision and mission of the EDHP at the 2020 international convention in Jacksonville (Nov. 3-7)please consider submitting your proposal to the EDHP (which is found under AECT Affiliation). A call for proposals has been published on the AECT website and are due Feb. 17. Otherwise, if you have any questions about the EDHP and what we are doing to facilitate communications and collaborations among healthcare professionals and instructional designers, please feel free to email me at Atsusi.Hirumi@ucf.edu.

Thanks again for your time and consideration. I hope you will join us.
